The following paintings, videos, and drawings are studies of shifts between the individual and the mass. In the context of its whole the individual becomes abstracted. The form of the mass becomes a unit in itself, the individual reverts to a simplistic form. Perhaps the ability to abstract an individual is the source of oppression and violence. Viewed differently it is the opposite. The individual comes into high focus and the mass becomes abstracted. Perhaps pulling individuals from a mass is our source of empathy. Our ability to view the world in these two very different extremes contributes to our ability to repress, our ability to love, start wars, and speaks about the contradictions inherent in human behavior.
